The ancient Silk road starts from Xi’an(called Chang’an once) in the East of China and goes West to ancient Rome, passing by the Pamir Plateau. Since the West Han dynasty (205BC-24AD), it has been the main road to connect the exchanges of trade and culture between the East and the West. It is a well-known world heritage site as well. Xi’an is the starting point of the silk road,which was identified as the world historical city in 1981 by UNESCO. It has a civilization of more than 5,000 years .Most of the tourists to Xi'an have two purposes: admiring the historical sites and tasting the delicious local food. One of questions might appear in the mind of every tourist who’s planning the silk road tour in the future, which is when will be the best seasons to Visit Xi’an.

Xi’an is a humanistic tourist attraction. We may say that all the seasons are suitable for tourism from certain meaning. But considering the detailed weather, the best time to travel to Xi'an is from March to November.
From March to May they are the best time to visit the big and small wild goose pagodas, and some other places.
From September to October, it is just meeting the crisp fall and harvest time. At this time you can enjoy the unique autumn scenery of big and small wild goose pagodasDaming Palace and some beautiful sceneries, in the evening you can go to the Hui Muslim Quarter to taste some traditional Xi’an cuisine and  go to visit Grand Tang Dynasty Ever-bright City as well to enjoy local culture and custom.
From March to November is the peak season of tourism in Xi'an every year. Although July to August is also included in this period, however the weather will be very hot during this season and there will be a lot of tourists because of summer holiday.
The off-season of tourism in Xi’an is from mid-November to March of next year. During these seasons, the climate of Xi'an is cold and dry. The temperature is pretty low, and the cold wind seems to penetrate the body, so there are not so many tourists. Because it is not the peak season of tourism, most scenic spots will carry out off-season prices. Considering the economic factors, it might be a good season to visit Xi'an.
The Silk Road is the most important part of Chinese history. The relics in Dunhuang, Zhangye and JiaYuguan are the treasures of the ancient Silk Road.
Zhangye Danxia World Geological Park can be the paradise of photographers, every April to the Mid-November is the best time to travel to Danxia Landform.
Especially as the sunset time, the mountains in the scenic area show bright redand reddish-brown, which looks like a colourful fire sea.
Jia Yuguan Fort is located 6 kilometers west of Jiayuguan City, which is the west section of the Great wall of Ming dynasty and is also an important stopover on the ancient Silk Road. Since ancient times, it has been known as "the western most end of ten-thousand li great wall". And the Jia Yuguan fort was built between two mountains. In winter and spring, you can take pictures of the magnificent scenery at the foot of Qilian snow mountain.Every April to December is the best time to visit Jiayuguan Fort.
Every March to November is the best time to enjoy the magnificent Mogao grottos and the spectacular Echoing Sanddune and Crescent Lake.
In Mogao grottos, you can enjoy the splendid grottos and mural arts, but also  know the development of history of Buddhism in Dunhuangfort housands of years via explanations and movies, which is a must choice for tourists to Dunhuang.
In the scenic area of  Echoing Sanddune and Crescent Lake, you will experience the desolate vastness of the Northwest desert. Climbing,Sliding, riding a camel, viewing the sunrise and sunset on the top of the sanddunes will be nice and interesting activities if your timing is ok.

The spring in Xinjiang is quite short, from Mid-March to May. Because of the invasion of the cold weather,usually with strong gale,the average temperature of this season is between 10 and 22 degrees Celsius. So it is the best time to look at the green plants around the trees.
In Tianshan mountain, especially in spring, it is just right season of the snow just melting and the small sprout growing with full energy. The blue sky, white clouds, and green grass make visitors feel so pleased and exciting.
From June to August, this time is regarded to be the peak season and hottest season in Xinjiang, with an average temperature that is over 22 degree Celsius.Therefore, in this season, you can enjoy the beautiful natural landscape and explore the local customs and practices here.

Naraty Grassland is located in Ili, which is one of the most attractive grasslands in the world. It seems that Naraty Grassland always knows how to attract more visitors to come and will not let them down. According to Turks language, Naraty means the first place to see the sun. The water from the surrounding large rivers supports the meadows to be always fresh in the summer.
Autumn is also the most comfortable and beautiful season, and the temperature range from 10 to 22 Degree Celsius. Thus the tourists are attracted here to enjoy the warm atmosphere of this city because the comfortable temperature.
Visiting Urumuqi will be the best choice when you travel to Xinjiang in Autumn. Urumqi is the largest city in northwest of China,which is an important stop along the Silk Road leading to Europe as well.
In winter,Xinjiang has a lot of snow with an average temperature of less than 10 Degree Celsius, You can experience the wonderful snow bergs as you visit the scenic spots ,such as Tianshan Mountain and Karakul lake. Karakul Lake is located in the Pair Plateau,which is one of the top 10 largest meteorite pools in the world and an attractive destination for Xinjiang tourism.The lake is famous for its terriffic landscape and beautiful reflection of iceberg in the water.
By the way, if you go to Xinjiang in the latter half of the year, you will see a lot of differences in this area.
