Kumarajiva (344-413A.D.) was a monk, Buddhist, philosopher and translator of later Qin Dynasty (384-417A.D.). When it is his youth his name spread all over the Western regions, heard the central Plains His father, Kumarajiyan was born in a prominent family in India, who abandoned the position of prime minister and traveled around the country. As he traveled to Qiuci (Kuqa now), he got married with the king’s sister of Qiuci kingdom and gave birth to Kumarajiva. So he was of mixed blood. From a young age, he was so clever and handsome ,who was said as the reincarnation of Shariputra. He started to speak at the age of half, read at the age of three and began to read widely at the age of five. Kumarajiva became a monk at the age of seven and his mother became a nun as well. He can recite 36,000 pieces of gatha every day, began to learn theravada classics when he was seven. When he was 9 years old, he accompanied his mother to Bin Na (Kashmir region now ) to recite sutras such as Tibetan and Ahham sutras from Pangtou Dado.

As a young man, he was knowledgeable and memorized. He not only understood Sanskrit, but also Chinese. He had a lot of achievements in Buddhism and proficient in Mahayana Theravada .He can be the first master of Sanzang, who was proficient in the Sutra, Law and Theroy of Sanzang and skillfully used them very well. He is one of the four major Buddhism translators in China, together with Xuan Zang, Bu Kong and ZhenDi.He was the founder of translation studies and the master of linguistics.

In 384 Lv Guang, the King of Houliang(386-403), took Kumarajiva from the western regions to Liangzhou (Wu wei in Gansu province). Kumarajiva stayed in Liang zhou for 17 years to promote Buddhism and learn  Chinese language. Kumarajiva was worshipped as national teacher of the State Liang. In memory of him the Kumarajiva temple was built in the south of Wuwei city, where Kumarajiva pagoda was built as well.

In 401 he was invited to Chang’an (Xi’an now) to teach and translate Buddhism. The Caotang temple was built for him to live and translate Buddhism sutras.Under the leadship of Kumarajiva  around 800 famous monks participated in translating Buddhism sutra and 3000 monks and Buddhists come for him to study Buddhism. Therefore, a parlance said that "three thousand disciples translating scriptures together".
