Brief Introduction: The monastery is located in lushaer town, huangzhong county, 25 kilometers southwest of Xining city,Qinghai province. It’s rated as AAAAA tourists attraction. Together with Drepung Monastery , Sera Monastery, Gandan Monastery ,Tashilhunpo Monastery in Tibet and  Labrang Monastery  in Gansu, they are collectively known as the six major monasteries of the Gelug Sect (yellow sect)of Lamaism in China.

The Ta’er monastery was founded in 1377 during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644AD). 'Ta' means pagoda. It got the name after the silver pagoda was built in memory of Zongkaba, the founder of the yellow sect of Tibetan Buddhism. At the age of 16, he went to Tibet for further study. He reformed Tibetan Buddhism and founded the Gelug Sect (Yellow Sect). At the beginning only one holy pagoda was built. After several times of expansion, more than 1,000 courtyards and 4,500 temples and monasteries in total were built, such as Big Golden Wa Temple, Small Golden Wa Temple, Flower Temple, Grand Sutra Hall, Nine Halls, Big Larang Ruyi Pagoda, Taiping Pagoda,Bodhi Pagoda and so on. The silver pagoda is called "gunbenxianbalin" in Tibetan, which means "maitreya temple with a hundred thousand lions roaring to Buddha statues". It is the center of Tibetan Buddhism in northwest of China and enjoys a good reputation in China and southeast of Asia. In the Ming dynasty, the upper religious figures in the monastery were granted titles for many times. A famous plaque was awarded by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911AD) . Emperor Qianlong awarded the monastery with the title of "Fanzong monastery", and a nice plaque was awarded to the dajinwa hall.The third dalai lama, the fourth dalai lama, the fifth dalai lama, the seventh dalai lama, the 13th dalai lama, the 14th dalai lama, the sixth panchen lama,the ninth panchen lama and the tenth panchen lama all conducted religious activities in the monastery.

Butter sculpture flowers, frescoes and barbola are known as the "three art masterpieces of the Ta’er monastery". In addition, many Buddhist classics and academic monographs on history,literature, philosophy, medicine and legislation are also kept in the monastery.The "four dharma meetings", a Buddhist event held every year, are even more lively.

Ta’er monastery is one of the six major monasteries of yellow sect of Tibetan Buddhism in China. It is also a leading scenic spot and historical site in Qinghai province and a national key cultural relic protection unit. On April 13, 2018, it was short listed in "amazing 100 sceneries in northwest of China".

Travel Tips: 1,Tourists who wear shorts and skirts are not allowed to visit;

1, In the monastery do not touch the Buddhist scriptures, Buddha statues, and other instruments, and do not try to cross over them;

2, In the monastery whether going around the pagoda or turning the prayer wheel you should follow the clockwise direction;

3, Don't touch the heads and hats of Tibetans;

4, The signs of no photo and no video can be seen in the halls of the Tar 'er Monastery. Photographing are not allowed in the halls of the Tar Monastery, especially in the Grand Golden Wa Hall.

5, Ta’er Temple is Tibetan Buddhism. If ordinary people go to worship Buddha, do not burn incense and light butter lamps;

6, Don't point your fingers at the Buddha in the temple. If necessary, keep your fingers together and point to the Buddha;

7,When you visit the monastery, some countyards and the main halls are allowed to visit. But not every monastery or hall is open to the public. There will be prominent signs of allowing or forbidding at the door of the monastery or the main hall. Never sneak into a forbidden monastery,otherwise the consequences are serious;

8,The sea level of Ta’er monastery is 2700m. Although it is not too high, but some tourists may appear slight altitude sickness,so please have a certain psychological preparation;
