Brief Introduction: Jiayuguan City islocated in the northwest of Gansu Province, which is in the middle of the Hexi Corridor and 776 kilometers away fromthe provincial capital Lanzhou . It got the name because the ancient Jiayuguan fort was built here.

Jiayuguan is adjacent to Jiuquan in the east which is an important historical town in the west of Gansu province and borders upon Yumen city in the where the first oil field of China was found. In the south of Jiayuguan it is Qilian Mountain covered with snow all the yearround. In the north of Jiayuguan it is the black mountain. The Jiayuguan city is just sandwiched by the two mountains, and the JIayuaguan fort was built in the middle of this valley. So Jia Yu means beautiful valley. In the northeast of Jiayuguan it is connected with the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Base and the Ejina Banner of Inner Mongolia.

So it is just located at the junction part of Gansu, Xinjiang, Qinghai and Inner Mongolia, which can be an important node city in the strategy of One Belt And One Road and a transit town on the new Eurasian land bridge and which is the must way to Xinjiang and Central Asia. It is known as the Malacca Strait on the land of China.

In the ancient time Jiayuguan was the important traffic hub of the ancient Silk Road and the western starting point of the Great Wall in Ming Dynasty, which was the western customs in Ming dynasty. Nowadays it is a famous steel city in the northwest of China. In the north of the city there is a large steel factory which was built in 1958. Each year around 8 million tons of steel are produced. It was established as a city in 1965 and was approved as a provincial municipality by the State Council in1971 . It is a famous tourism city along the silk road because of the Jiayuguan fort. Each year a lot of tourists come for Jiayuguan fort. For example,in 2017, the number of tourists to Jiayuguan reached 8.5 million and the revenue from tourism reached 5.72 billion yuan.

Climate: The climate of Jiayuguan belongs to the temperate continental desert climate. The annual average temperature is between 6.7 and 7.7 degrees, the annual average natural precipitation is 85.3mm, the evaporation capacity is 2149 mm, and the number of annual frost-free period reaches 130 days. January is the coldest month ,and July is the hottest month .

Transportation: The roads, railways and air transportation in Jiayuguan city are three-dimensional traffic pattern. Jiayuguan is connected to Lian Huo Expressway which extends 4500km from Lian Yungang city in the east of China to Khorgos ,the customs of China and Kazakhstan. And National Highway 312 runs through the entire territory of Jiayuguan. Jiayuguan Railway Station is the largest railway junction marshalling station in Hexi Corridor. And Jiayuguannan Fast Train Station is one of the important traffic nodes of Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway of Lanzhou to Xinjiang. Every day 28 bullet trains pass through Jiayuguannan station, among which 9 bullet trains just start from the station. Jiayuguan Airport is a 4E grade international alternate landing airport. The routes to Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Xi 'an,Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou and other 16 cities are working.

Local Food: Jiayuguan can be compared as asmall immigrantion city because a lot of people moved here from other cities ofChina since the steel factory was built in 1958.
