Zhangye was the transportation center of the ancient Silk Road along the Hexi Corridor. After the founding of new China, the transportation industry developed rapidly. The Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway, which was officially opened in 1956, runs through the whole territory and was transformed into a double-track railway in 1994. Thereare also nine special railway lines in the area. In December of 2014 Zhangyexi fast train station was completed and put on use. With national highway linesof 312 and 227 as the backbone and the roads to 89 counties and villages  as the supplement, thehighway transportation network crisscrosses and reaches in all directions. Afterthe reconstruction, the convenient and high-speed national highway 227 lines,312 lines, the electrification of Lanzhou-Xin double-track railway, the business of branch line of civil aviation in Zhangye has been opened, accelerating the formation of three-dimensional traffic framework in Zhangye.

Fast train station: Zhangyexi fast trainstation is a railway station under the jurisdiction of China Railway Lanzhou Bureau Group Co., Ltd., and an intermediate station on the Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway. It was completed and put into use on December 24, 2014. As of December 2014, Zhangye West Station has a construction area of 37,759 square meters, with 3 platforms and 7 lines. It is designed to deliver 9,000 passengers per day in the near future and 15,000 person-times per day in thelong term.

Zhangye Ganzhou Airport（IATA：YZY，ICAO：ZLZY）is locatedin the southeast of Zhangye City, 24 kilometers away from the city center is a joint airport of military and civilian located in Zhangye City, central Gansu Province. The airport is 4C class, and the largest runway carrying models areA320 and 737-800. The air routes from Zhangye to Lanzhou, Xi 'an, Beijing,Chengdu and Urumqi are opened. In the future more routes are planned to be open.
