Brief Introduction: The old town of Kashgar is located in the center of Kashgar city. It covers an area of 4.25 square kilometers, where 126,800 residents live. The streets of old town are crisscrossed with flexible layout. Most of the dwellings are of clay and wood or  brick and wood structure. There is  a history of hundreds of years for many traditional dwellings .The old town of Kashgar is the only labyrinthine urban blocks in China with Islamic culture as its characteristics. In the history it was the largest distribution center of agricultural and animal husbandry products, as well as an important commercial port town on the ancient Silk Road ,the hinge  of communication between the East and the West, and an important meeting point of economy, culture and civilization between the East and the West.

Now Kashgar Old Town is a national 5A tourist attraction. It is one of the popular tourist destinations as well in Xinjiang.The old town of Kashgar has a very long history with large scaled native buildings. The old townof Kashgar can be a collection of thousands of years of history and culture. With zigzag streets and carved doors and Windows,the old town is compared as a cultural and folk museum where the civilizations of two thousand years between the east and west has been solidified. The old city of Kashgar is also honored as the living memory of the Silk Road,which has witnessed the changes of history in the old city.

The old city of Kashgar has not only ancient buildings, but also a rich and colorful history and culture. There are a lot of traditional intangible cultural heritage here. The local people usually make some handicrafts with local characteristics. Some elderly people in the area will do handicrafts in their spare time,who are the inheritors of  history and culture and make many beautiful handicrafts.

There is also a rich variety of exotic commodities with the style of Uygur people in the old city of Kashgar. In the old town,shops in the back streets are full of local specialties.
