Brief Introduction : Yellow River Stone Forest National Geological Park is located in Longwan village in Jingtai country of Baiyin city in Gansu province. It was formed by the rising of the Earth's crust. It covers an area of 50 square km, which was rated as 4A scenic area. The stone forest came into being 4 million years ago.As a result of crustal movement, weathering, rain erosion and other geological processes, a variety of shapes of stone forest landform wonders were created.

It was reported that the Yellow River Stone Forest was discovered by a fieldwork team of the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1990 and announced to the public in 1996. Because of inconvenient transport, however, it remained beyond tourists’ reach until the road was completed.

Just as beautiful as the famous Stone Forest in Yunnan, Yellow River Stone Forest is composed of many sand stalagmites and stone pillars in various sizes and shapes. Unique patterns on cliff sides formed by water and wind erosion have made the stone forest more attractive.

Looking from the terrace standing at the entrance, you see a magnificent landscape of river, stone forest, desert and oasis. It looks even more beautiful when mist lingering on the slopes of the Qilian mountain at the opposite bank of the Yellow River serves as its backdrop. The sunshine casts the whole valley in dark red, making it appear like the Grand Canyon in the U.S.

The wonderful scene is a prodigious creation of nature. The Yellow River flows east to west through the scenic area, which covers 34 square kilometers. Together with the surrounding deserts, oasises and farms, the Yellow River Stone Forest National Geological Park has become a location for many famous Chinese movies and TV shows.More and more visitors are coming to the park to sightsee, have fun and explore.

Travel  Tips:

1, The climate in Jingtai county belongs to the temperate dry continental climate, which is cold in winter and hot in summer. The annual average temperature is 8.6 degree. The temperature difference between morning and evening is large. Please be prepared to stay warm and protect yourself from the sun;

2. The area of Yellow River Stone Forest National Park is so large, where you should pass through a village, go across the yellow river and go through the grand canyon to the top of the stone forest. It is not easy to finish visiting only by foot. You need the necessary help of special transportation, such as shuttle bus, buggy, sheep skin raft,speeding boat and donkey cart. When you buy the entrance fee, you’d better at least buy the tickets of shuttle bus and shuttle buggy as well. For other transportation tools such as sheep skin rafts, speed boat and donkey carts, you may decide to buy extra tickets as you reach them.

3, Prepare more water and some snacks, just in case;
